Die Gebäudeautomation dient der Gesamtfunktionalität von Gebäuden im Nutzungsfall. Die ATV DIN 18386 "Gebäudeautomation" aus der VOB/Teil C legt die allgemeinen Vertragsbedingungen fest, die für die Ausführung von Gebäudeautomationsanlagen bezüglich der Baustoffe, der Ausführung, der Haupt- und der Nebenleistungen sowie der Abrechnung gelten. Sie gilt für Systeme zum Messen, Steuern, Regeln und Leiten technischer Anlagen. Die ATV wurde 2015 vom DVA fachtechnisch überarbeitet, an die neuesten Entwicklungen im Bauwesen angepasst (z. B. Richtlinien für Raumautomation) und zum Teil neu strukturiert (Abschnitt 5 Abrechnung). Der Kommentar zur neuen ATV DIN 18386 geht auf die Änderungen ein und gibt praktische Hinweise zur Umsetzung auf der Baustelle.
