Jahrzehntelang galt die zehnteilige Norm DIN 18195 "Bauwerksabdichtungen" als das maßgebliche Regelwerk für die Ausführung und für die technische Bewertung von Bauwerksabdichtungen in Deutschland. Nach mehreren Überarbeitungen und Neufassungen wurde sie an die fortschreitende Entwicklung der Abdichtungstechnik angepasst und zum 1. Juli 2017 durch fünf neue Normenreihen zur Abdichtung von Bauwerken (DIN 18531 bis DIN 18535) ersetzt. Zeitgleich wurde die DIN 18195 zurückgezogen und als reine Begriffsnorm neu herausgegeben. Die neuen Normen gliedern sich nicht mehr nach der Art der Wasserbeanspruchung, sondern bauteilbezogen nach ihrem Anwendungsbereich. Mit dem Kommentar zur Normenreihe DIN 18533 "Erdberührte Bauteile" steht Planern und Ausführenden ein hilfreiches Arbeitsmittel zur Umsetzung der neuen Anforderungen zur Verfügung.
