1. Scope | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1.1 This specification covers glass fiber unsupported needled felt (mechanically bonded) binder-free insulation for thermal insulation. This material is used as the thermal insulation component in the fabrication of insulation systems for use on machinery and equipment, such as steam turbines, boilers, boiler feed pumps, and piping at temperatures from ambient up to 1200°F (650°C). 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.4 See Supplementary Requirements for modifications to paragraphs in this standard when using Specification C 1086 in lieu of the United States Department of Defense, Department of Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command, in Washington, DC.
