1. Scope |
1.1 This specification covers fully crosslinked elastomeric alloys (FCEAs) for extrusion, molding and other fabrication methods. FCEAs consist of two or more polymer systems between which a synergistic interaction has arisen, giving rise to properties and performance above and beyond what would rationally be expected from a physical blend of the systems. This synergism arises from a chemical transformation involving at least one of the polymer systems. Fully crosslinked elastomeric alloys may be either heterogenous (two or more phases) or homogeneous (single phase). The FCEA polymer systems may contain plasticizers, fillers, reinforcing agents, resins, antidegradants, colorants and other beneficial constituents. 1.2 Included in this specification are the properties necessary to identify the respective compositions. For specialized applications other requirements may be needed to identify specific characteristics. These will be mutually agreed between the parties involved, employing the suffixes in Section 5. 1.3 As given in Practice E380, values in SI units will be regarded as standard. 1.4 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test methods portion, Section 12, of this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. |
