1. Scope |
1.1 This test method covers the centrifuge method for determining sediment and water in crude oil during field custody transfers. This test method may not always provide the most accurate results, but it is considered the most practical method for field determination of sediment and water. When a higher degree of accuracy is required, the laboratory procedure described in Test Methods D4006, D4377 or D473 should be used. Note 1-Water by distillation and sediment by extraction are considered the most accurate methods of determining sediment and water in crude oils. As such, these methods should be employed to resolve differences in results from variations of this procedure or between this procedure and other methods, or in the case of a dispute between parties.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. |
