Norma obsahuje tabulky rozdělení nářadí do skupin podle účelu použití (nástroje protahovací, pily na kovy, na závity, brusivo, nástroje na dřevo, na tváření za studena a za tepla a další). Podle čísel tabulky jsou pak vydány k normě další volné listy (několik desítek stran) na nichž jsou vyobrazení jednotlivých druhů nářadí. Význam této normy je obdobný jako u názvoslovných norem. ČSN 22 0001 byla schválena 22.1.1960 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.7.1960
