Norma platí pro kontejnery určené k manipulaci s materiálem a stanoví jejich základní třídění. Tato všeobecná a stručná norma (9 článků - 3 strany) obsahuje třídění kontejnerů, které vychází ze šesti hledisek, a to: podle určení a přepravovaného materiálu, podle ochrany materiálu, dále možnosti skládání prázdných kontejnerů, druhu dopravy, podle použití ve vnitrostátní nebo mezinárodní přepravě a konečně podle velikosti kontejneru. ČSN 26 9354 byla schválena 12.10.1987 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.11.1988. Nahradila ČSN 26 9354 z 29.10.1979
