Tato část IEC 60364 stanoví požadavky na ochranu živých vodičů, vodičů PEN, vodičů PEM a vodičů PEL před škodlivými účinky způsobenými nadproudem a na koordinaci opatření na ochranu před nadproudem. Požadavky tohoto dokumentu neberou v úvahu vnější vlivy. Ochrana vodičů podle tohoto dokumentu nemusí nutně chránit zařízení připojená k těmto vodičům.
