Norma platí pro chemický rozbor antimonových rud a koncentrátů a určuje stanovení rtuti metodou fotometrickou. Při provádění rozboru musí být dodržena všechna ustanovení podle ČSN 44 1701. Podstata metody: Vzorek se rozloží kyselinami, rtuť se oddělí destilací jako chlorid rtuťnatý v prostředí kyseliny chlorovodíkové a sírové a stanoví v destilátu fotometricky s dithizonem. Postup při provádění normalizované zkoušky je podrobně popsán. ČSN 44 1653 byla schválena 18.5.1989 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.4.1990. Nahradila část 14 ČSN 44 1641 z 30.5.1974 a spolu s ČSN 44 1701, ČSN 44 1641 až ČSN 44 1652, ČSN 44 1654 až ČSN 44 1659 ji nahradila v celém rozsahu
