Norma vymezuje kvalitu bioplynu především pro zážehové motory na takové palivo přizpůsobené. Požadavky a zkušební metody jsou stanoveny pro bioplyn typu L, který je určen jako palivo motorů bez regulace s uzavřeným (autoadaptivním) řídícím obvodem a typu H pro motory s regulací s uzavřeným řídícím obvodem. Hlavní rozdíl je ve výhřevnostech bioplynu, vyjádřených jako Wobbeho číslo. Typ L je méně výhřevný.
