Norma je překladem ST SEV 6377-88. V normě jsou současně zapracovány údaje ISO 6743/0. Norma platí pro plastická maziva a stanovuje jejich klasifikaci ve smyslu ČSN 67 6307 v rozsahu penetrace od 85 do 475 jednotek (10E-1 mm). Norma neplatí pro parafíny, vazelíny, asfalty, vosky a jiné podobné výrobky. Jde o stručnou klasifikační normu o dvou kapitolách a celkem čtyřech článcích. ČSN 65 6901 byla schválena 7.2.1990 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.1.1991
