Norma platí pro stanovení zemního tlaku na všechny druhy stavebních konstrukcí, pokud pro ně nejsou vydány zvláštní předpisy. Navazuje na ČSN 73 0031. Neplatí pro stanovení zemního tlaku na konstrukce ražené v zeminách, na protlačované konstrukce a báňská díla. Rozsáhlá stavebně technická norma (cca 53 stran)normalizuje zejména požadavky pro případ zemního tlaku v klidu, ať jde o aktivní nebo pasivní zemní tlak a dále požadavky pro případy zemního tlaku na nerozepřené, rozepřené, kotvené a zasypané konstrukce. ČSN 73 0037 byla schválena 16.11.1990 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.1.1992. Nahradila ČSN 73 0037 z 9.7.1969
