Norma stanoví zásady pro stoprocentní a výběrovou kontrolu geometrické přesnosti ve výstavbě a podrobně popisuje výběrové postupy založené na statistických metodách (odhad průměru a rozptylu souboru, statistický toleranční interval a statistickou přejímku). Norma platí pro ověřování jakosti stavebních objektů, konstrukcí, jejich částí a stavebních dílců z hlediska přesnosti jejich geometrických parametrů předepsaných ke kontrole. ČSN 73 0212-6 byla vydána v listopadu 1993. Nahradila ČSN 73 0209 z 27.10.1986, ČSN 73 0290 z 8.7.1987 a dále díl 2 (články 2.1 až 2.7) a oddíl 3 (články 3.1 až 3.6) ČSN 73 0212 ze 17.1.1985
