Norma platí pro výpočet obestavěného prostoru pozemních stavebních objektů, jejichž rozsah /objem/ lze vyjádřit měrnou jednotkou /m3/ obestavěného prostoru, pro účely projektové přípravy, i pro účely jejich porovnání a hodnocení. Účelem normy je zajistit jednotný způsob měření a výpočtu tak, aby byly vytvořeny jednotné podklady pro stanovení technicko - hospodářských ukazatelů. Celá norma se týká pouze techniky výpočtu obestavěného prostoru a obsahuje také potřebné příkladové nákresy. Může mít význam pro pracovníky (hygienického) dozoru při posuzování projektové dokumentace. ČSN 73 4055 byla schválena 30.6.1962 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.1.1963
