Tato norma určuje metodu stanovení hodnoty absorbance ultrafialového záření vlnové délky 254 nm ve všech typech vod. Rozsah stanovitelných hodnot je dán optickou délkou použité kyvety. Při použití kyvety s optickou délkou 1 cm je možno stanovit hodnoty absorbance od 0,01. Při měření vody s nízkou hodnotou absorbance se doporučuje použít kyvetu s optickou délkou 5 cm, popřípadě 10 cm, která umožní precizně změřit hodnoty od 0,005
