Tato norma specifikuje absorpční fotometrickou metodu stanovení dusičnanů ve zkumavkách. Zkouška je použitelná k rozboru pitné nebo surové vody. Dále je vhodná jako metoda stanovení dusičnanů (v roztoku po oxidační mineralizaci) při stanovení dusíku v odpadních vodách podle ČSN EN ISO 11905-1. Metodou lze stanovit koncentraci dusičnanů (NO3-) do 50 mg˙l-1 ve zkoušeném objemu vzorku 500 l při použití zkumavek s průměrem 16 mm.
