Norma stanoví české a slovenské názvy vad obuvi užívané v obuvnickém průmyslu při modelování, výrobě dopravě a skladování obuvi, v technických podkladech, odborné literatuře, učebnicích, příručkách, hospodářském styku apod. a určuje význam názvů (vymezení pojmů). Česky a slovensky je ve čtyřech částech normy uvedeno názvosloví. Česky je definováno cca 81 hesel. Pro informaci se uvádějí obdobné názvy v jazyce ruském, anglickém a německém. Cizojazyčná část normy má charakter orientační pomůcky. ČSN 79 5013 byla schválena 25.4.1991 a nabyla účinnosti od 1.4.1992. Nahradila ON 79 5013 z 12.12.1974
