Tato norma definuje termíny pro žárovzdorné materiály a výrobky, které jsou klasifikovány jako vysokoteplotní izolační vlna (HTIW). Stanovuje rovněž klasifikaci žárovzdorných izolačních výrobků vyrobených z HTIW a postupy na stanovení tloušťky, objemové hmotnosti, vratné deformace, trvalých délkových změn, pevnosti v tahu, vlhkosti a obsahu organických složek HTIW výrobků. Norma se vztahuje na HTIW volnou vlnu, rohože, plsti, nejehlované rohože, desky, tvarovky a papíry, nevztahuje se na výrobky dodávané ve vlhkém stavu.
