Tato norma popisuje referenční metodu používanou pro zkoušku typu a v případech sporu pro stanovení mezerovitosti suchého zhutněného fileru pomocí Rigdenovým přístrojem. Pro jiné účely, zejména pro řízení výroby se mohou použít jiné metody za předpokladu, že byl stanoven vyhovující vztah s referenční metodou. Zkouška je vhodná pro přírodní i umělé filery. Používá se například pro stanovení kapacity schopnosti vázat asfalt.
