Tato norma poskytuje návod pro sledování/odběr vzorků, identifikaci a základní kvantifikaci fytobentosu (kromě makrofyt) v tekoucích vodách. Je použitelná pro řeky, v nichž jsou hlavními fototrofy bentické řasy a mechorosty. Tato metoda zahrnuje všechny růstové formy fytobentosu a umožňuje monitorování biologických odezev na environmentální události po dobu jednoho roku nebo více let. V tomto ohledu poskytuje alternativu k metodám založeným na bentických rozsivkách (EN 13946; EN 14407) a makrofytech (EN 14184). Údaje získané pro růstové formy fytobentosu jsou vhodné pro pilotní sledování, pro hodnocení jakosti vody a pro monitorování trendu. Tato norma zahrnuje všechny aspekty od návrhu sledování a programu odběru vzorků po identifikaci a základní kvantifikaci fytobentosu
