Norma je českou verzí evropské normy EN 1746:1998. Evropská norma EN 1746:1998 má status české technické normy. Tato evropská norma udává návod jak formulovat ustanovení týkající se hluku v normách typu C, kde je hluk identifikován jako významné nebezpečí (viz čl.4.5 /ČSN/ EN 292-1:1991). Tímto způsobem doplňuje tato evropská norma pravidla uvedená v (ČSN) EN 414:1992. Norma se skládá z těchto kapitol: kapitola 1 - Předmět normy, kapitola 2 - Normativní odkazy, kapitola 3 - Požadavky na navrhování kapitol o hluku v normách typu C. V této kapitole jsou podrobně uvedena obecná pravidla navrhování těchto kapitol (čl.3.1), a dále osnovy kapitol, obsahujících "hluk jako nebezpečí" (čl.3.2), "snižování hluku jako bezpečnostní požadavek" (čl.3.3), "ověřování shody s bezpečnostními požadavky a opatřeními" (čl.3.4) a "instrukční příručku" (čl.3.5). Konečně norma obsahuje informativní Přílohy A a B. ČSN EN 1746 (01 1628) byla vydána v červenci 1999
