Tato norma je českou verzí evropské normy EN 1922:1997. Evropská norma EN 1922:1997 má status české technické normy. Tato evropská norma specifikuje repertoár grafických znaků a řídicí funkce vztahující se k informační výměně, probíhající prostřednictvím telexových služeb. Je určena pro použití s dalšími funkčními evropskými normami které specifikují řetězce kódovaných znaků určených pro informační výměnu kódovaných informací mezi systémy zpracování informací (Information Processing Systems - IPS) prostřednictvím telexových služeb. Tato norma specifikuje dvě alternativy volby repertoáru grafických znaků: - volba A pro latinské grafické znaky, - volba B pro latinské a řecké grafické znaky. ČSN EN 1922 (36 9122) byla vydána v září 1998
