Tato část IEC 60318 popisuje akustickou spojku pro zatížení sluchátka nebo sluchadla specifickou akustickou impedancí při určování jeho fyzikálních provozních vlastností v kmitočtovém rozsahu 125 Hz až 8 kHz. Je vhodná pro sluchadla a sluchátka s vedením zvuku vzduchem, která se vkládají do ucha pomocí ušních vložek např. ušních tvarovek nebo podobných součástí. Akustický tlak vytvářený sluchátkem není obecně stejný v akustické spojce jako v uchu osoby. Lze jej však použít jako jednoduchý a snadný prostředek pro výměnu technických požadavků a fyzikálních údajů o sluchadlech a při kalibraci specifikovaných vložných sluchátek používaných v audiometrii.
