Tuto mezinárodní normu lze použít pro podpěrné izolátory z organické hmoty pro vnitřní provoz v elektrických sítích nebo v zařízeních provozovaných ve vzduchu při atmosférickém tlaku se střídavým proudem a jmenovitým napětím vyšším než 1 000 V do, ale ne včetně 300 kV definovaným rozsahem I v IEC 60071-1 a s kmitočtem ne větším než 100 Hz. Na kompozitní izolátory se tato norma nevztahuje.
