Cílem této normy je stanovit jednotné a reprodukovatelné zkušební a měřicí postupy vlivu okolního prostředí na aktivní optické prvky a zařízení. Zkušební a měřicí postupy jsou navrženy tak, aby poskytly informace o možnostech provozovat prvky a zařízení ve stanoveném rozmezí teplot, tlaku, vlhkosti, mechanického namáhání a dalších parametrů okolního prostředí a informace o způsobilosti odolat skladování, přepravě a způsobilosti splnit stanovenou úroveň optické funkčnosti. Zkušební a měřicí postupy uvedené v této normě se vztahují na aktivní optické prvky a zařízení popsané v souborech norem IEC 62007, IEC 62148 a IEC 62149
