Tato evropská norma specifikuje požadavky a zkušební metody pro netvrdnoucí těsnicí materiály (dále označované jako těsnicí prostředky) vhodné pro těsnění kovových závitových spojů specifikovaných v ISO 7-1. Tyto těsnicí prostředky jsou určeny pro použití v kontaktu s plyny první, druhé a třetí třídy (LPG kromě LPG v kapalné formě) a horkou vodou systémů vytápění (třída A), u spotřebičů plynných paliv a jejich příslušenství (třída B) a také skladování LPG (třída C) podle tabulky 1.
