Norma ČSN EN ISO 18276 uvádí klasifikační systém pro plněné elektrody založený na pevnostních vlastnostech, nárazové práci, chemickém složení čistého svarového kovu, druhu náplně elektrody, typu ochranného plynu a poloze svařování. Poměr meze kluzu k pevnosti v tahu je u svarového kovu obecně vyšší, než u základního materiálu. Je obecně známo, že mez kluzu svarového kovu odpovídající mezi kluzu základního materiálu nemusí nutně znamenat, že pevnost svarového kovu bude odpovídat pevnosti základního materiálu
