Norma specifikuje metodu stanovení odolnosti nátěru proti oděru pomocí brusného materiálu, kterým se lineárně pohybuje po zkoušeném povrchu. Metodu lze použít i na povrchy jiných materiálů, např. plastů a kovů. Ke zkoušce se používá brousicí nástroj potažený dohodnutým brusným materiálem. Tímto nástrojem se s použitím dohodnutého brusného média s pomocí lineárního abrazivního zkušebního zařízení (crockmetru) pohybuje po nátěru. V závislosti na dohodě a použití existují tři varianty postupu popsané v normě
