Tato část ISO 5983 specifikuje metodu pro stanovení obsahu dusíku v krmivech podle Kjeldahlovy metody a metodu pro výpočet obsahu hrubého proteinu. Je vhodná jako semi-mikro rychlá rutinní metoda využívající mineralizace v bloku, měďnatý katalyzátor a destilaci vodní parou do kyseliny borité. Metoda je použitelná pro stanovení hmotnostních podílů dusíku dle Kjeldahla větších než 0,5 % v krmivech pro hospodářská zvířata, v krmivech pro domácí zvířata a v jejich (krmných) surovinách. Tato metoda nerozlišuje mezi bílkovinným a nebílkovinným dusíkem
