Tato mezinárodní norma představuje metody předpovídání celkového tepelného pocitu a stupně nespokojenosti s tepelným prostředím pracovníků vystavených mírnému tepelnému prostředí. Umožňuje analytické stanovení a interpretaci tepelného komfortu pomocí výpočtu ukazatelů PMV (předpovídaného středního tepelného pocitu) a PPD (předpovídaného procenta nespokojených) i stanovení kritérií místního tepelného komfortu určujících environmentální podmínky považované za přijatelné pro celkový tepelný komfort, nebo představující místní diskomfort. Platí pro zdravou pracovní populaci vystavenou vnitřním prostředím, kde je žádoucí tepelný komfort, ale kde se v návrhu nových prostředí nebo při hodnocení již existujících vyskytují mírné odchylky od žádoucího stavu.
