Tato evropská norma definuje zkoušky svářečů pro tavné svařování hliníku a jeho slitin. Poskytuje soubor technických pravidel pro systematické zkoušky svářečů a umožňuje jednotné kvalifikace, které jsou nezávislé na druhu výrobku, místě a zkušebním orgánu/zkušební organizaci. Při zkouškách svářeče je kladen důraz na schopnost svářeče ručně manipulovat s elektrodou/svařovacím hořákem a tímto vytvářet svar přijatelné jakosti. Tato evropská norma platí pro metody tavného svařování, které jsou označovány jako ruční nebo částečně mechanizované. Neplatí pro plně mechanizované a automatické metody.
