Tato norma specifikuje metodu hodnocení mechanických vlastností kovových superplastických materiálů vykazujících superplasticitu charakteristickou pro jemnozrnné materiály, bez významnějšího deformačního zpevňování nebo vývoje dynamické mikrostruktury, pomocí tahové zkoušky prováděné při konstantní rychlosti posuvu příčníku na plochých zkušebních tělesech bez průtahoměru. Superplastické tváření vyžaduje charakterizaci kovových superplastických materiálů. Tahová zkouška specifikovaná v této normě umožňuje hodnocení superplastických vlastností, jako jsou superplastická tažnost, napětí vyvolávající plastický tok, exponent citlivosti na deformační rychlost (hodnota m), vztah mezi napětím a deformací a vztah mezi napětím vyvolávajícím plastický tok a deformační rychlostí
