Tato norma uvádí dvě metody pro stanovení obsahu těkavých látek v surových kaučucích za použití horkých válců nebo sušárny. Metody lze použít ke stanovení obsahu těkavých látek u kaučuků obsahujících "R" skupiny uvedených v ISO 1629. Lze je aplikovat i na jiné surové kaučuky, ale v těchto případech je nutné doložit, že změna hmotnosti je způsobena pouze ztrátou určité těkavé látky a ne degradací kaučuku. Protože jsou kaučuky velmi významnou základní a výchozí surovinou v gumárenské výrobě, patří tato norma do základních zkušebních norem pro gumárenský průmysl
