Norma je identická s ISO 6936:1988. Stanoví pravidla konverze mezi 58 znaky (včetně řídicích funkcí) mezinárodní telegrafní abecedy č. 2 CCITT (doporučení CCITT F.1) a znaky kódovaných souborů znaků ISO 646 a ISO 6937-2. Norma nespecifikuje, zda jsou použita pro reprezentaci abecedních znaků ITA 2 malá nebo velká písmena. Tato norma by měla usnadnit spolupráci například mezi mezinárodní dálnopisnou službou a terminály v datových sítích v případech, že je dostačující dálnopisný repertoár znaků. ČSN ISO 6936 (36 9113) byla vydána v únoru 1997
