Vztah mezi množinou kalibračních bodů není vždy možné, byť jen v pracovním rozsahu, přesně popsat lineární funkcí. Místo lineární regresní analýzy se aplikuje metoda nejmenších čtverců využívající polynomu druhého stupně. Pomocí ní lze vypočítat nejen kalibrační funkci, ale také jí příslušející statistický interval.
