Norma je českou verzí mezinárodní normy ISO/IEC 8859-1:1998. Mezinárodní norma ISO/IEC 8859-1:1998 má status české technické normy. Tato první část ISO/IEC 8859 specifikuje soubor 191 kódovaných grafických znaků identifikovaných jako latinská abeceda č.1.
