Technologie TPEG je určena pro poskytovatele služeb, neboť byla navržena pro širokou škálu aplikací, které vyžadují efektivní přenos z jednoho bodu do více bodů prostřednictvím příjmu rádiového vysílání. Tato technická specifikace předkládá počáteční skupinu případů užití TPEG. Umožňuje indexování nových i stávajících aplikací TPEG tím, že pro každou aplikaci TPEG stanoví jednoznačný identifikátor AID. Dále je v příloze této normy stanoven postup sestavování zkrácených názvů norem (stávajících i budoucích), spolu s číslem redakční verze, sloužících pro rychlou orientaci v celé množině norem z této skupiny 18234
