Dieses Dokument enthält die maßbezogenen, optischen, mechanischen und umgebungsbezogenen Anforderungen an das Betriebsverhalten am Anfang der Lebensdauer eines mechanischen Spleißes einer Einmodenfaser, die dieser erfüllen muss, um als ein Europäisches Normprodukt eingestuft zu werden. Obwohl die nach diesem Dokument qualifizierten Produkte Einmodenfasern nach EN IEC 60793-2-50, Bauart B-652 D, sind, können sie auch für mechanisches Spleißen anderer Einmodenfasern mit einem Glasfasermanteldurchmesser von 125 µm geeignet sein. In diesem Dokument werden auch mechanische Spleiße behandelt, die für Verbindungen von ummantelten Fasern und Kabeln sowie Fasern und Kabel mit Sekundärbeschichtung nach EN 60794-2-50:2008 vorgesehen sind.
