Dieser Teil von IEC 60669 ist anwendbar für elektronische Steuereinrichtungen, ein allgemeiner Begriff für elektronische Schalter, Schalter und elektronische Fernbedienungseinheiten der elektronischen Systemtechnik für Heim und Gebäude (ESHG) / Systeme der Gebäudeautomation (GA). Er ist anwendbar für elektronische Schalter und für ESHG/GA-Schalter, nur für Wechselstrom (AC) mit einer Bemessungsschaltspannung bis 250 V und einen Bemessungsstrom bis 16 A, die zur Verwendung im Haushalt und in ähnlichen ortsfesten elektrischen Installationen entweder in Innenräumen oder im Freien bestimmt sind. Er ist auch anwendbar für elektronische Fernbedienungseinheiten mit einer Bemessungsversorgungsspannung bis 250 V AC und 120 V DC, wie Sensoren und Drucktaster. Dieses Dokument ist auch anwendbar für elektronische Fernschalter (en: remote control switch, RCS) und elektronische Zeitschalter (en: time delay switch, TDS). Besondere Anforderungen sind in Anhang FF angegeben. Schalter, die ausschließlich passive Bauelemente enthalten, wie z. B. Widerstände, Kondensatoren, Induktivitäten, Bauelemente mit positivem Temperaturkoeffizient (PTC) und negativem Temperaturkoeffizient (NTC), Varistoren, Leiterplatten und Steckverbinder, werden nicht als elektronische Steuereinrichtungen angesehen.
