Dieser Teil von IEC 60794 beschreibt die Prüfverfahren zum Nachweis der mechanischen und funktionellen Unversehrtheit des LWL-Bandkabelaufbaus. Die Prüfung bestimmt die Fähigkeit des Bandkabels, einer Torsion ohne Ablösen der Lichtwellenleiter vom Verbundstoff des Bandkabels standzuhalten. Dieses Dokument ist anwendbar auf Lichtwellenleiterkabel (LWL-Faserbändern in Kabeln) für die Verwendung in Telekommunikationseinrichtungen und in Geräten, die ähnlichen Techniken dienen, sowie für LWL-Faserbänder in Kabeln, die eine Kombination aus Lichtwellenleitern und elektrischen Leitern enthalten. Dieses Dokument ist nicht anwendbar auf teilverbundene Bandkabel. Das Verfahren für teilverbundene Bandkabel ist in Bearbeitung. Die in dem Dokument enthaltene Formulierung "Lichtwellenleiterkabel" kann auch LWL-Einheiten, Mikrorohr-LWL-Einheiten usw. umfassen.
