Dieser Teil von IEC 61755 legt eine Reihe vorgeschriebener Bedingungen für eine Einmoden-LWL-Verbindung fest, die zur Erfüllung der Anforderungen an die Dämpfung und die Rückflussdämpfung eines beliebig zusammengefügten Paares angeschrägter, polierter Fasern mit physikalischem Kontakt (APC) eingehalten werden. Bei diesem Modell wird eine Normalverteilung der Lichtintensität über den festgelegten Modenfelddurchmesser (MFD) verwendet, um auf der Grundlage der MFD-Fehlanpassung sowie des Ausmaßes des seitlichen Versatzes und des Winkelversatzes des Faserkerns eine Bestimmung der Betriebsverhaltensklassen für die Dämpfung vorzunehmen. Betriebsverhaltensklassen für Dämpfung und Rückflussdämpfung sind in IEC 61755-1 festgelegt.
