Dieser Teil von IEC 62246 enthält zusätzliche Anforderungen für die Bewertung von Funktionsmerkmalen an Reed-Schaltkomponenten, die durch ein magnetisches Stellglied aktiviert werden und bietet eine Anleitung für deren Implementierung in ausgewählten Anwendungen. Dieses Dokument legt Prüf- und Messverfahren für die Anwendung von magnetischen Sensoren auf Basis von Reedschaltern (Kontakt) fest. Falls die Anwendung eines Reedkontakt-Magnetsensors zusätzliche Anforderungen stellt, die über die in diesem Dokument festgelegten hinausgehen, wird der Sensor mit dieser Anwendung in Übereinstimmung mit der/den relevanten IEC- oder ISO-Norm(en) bewertet (z. B. IEC 62061 oder Normenreihe ISO 13849, IEC 60335-1 und relevante Teile der Normenreihe IEC 60335-2, IEC 60730-1, IEC 61373, ISO 16750-3).
