Diese Europäische Norm legt das Referenzverfahren für die Typprüfung fest sowie im Fall von Streitigkeiten für die Bestimmung der Verdichtbarkeit und Druckfestigkeit bei behinderter Querdehnung von leichten Gesteinskörnungen (LWA, en: lightweight aggregates). Für andere Zwecke, insbesondere im Rahmen der werkseigenen Produktionskontrolle, können andere Verfahren angewendet werden, sofern ein ausreichender Zusammenhang zum Referenzverfahren nachgewiesen wurde. Die Prüfung gilt für LWA, die durch ein 32-mm-Sieb hindurchpassen.
