Für andere Zwecke, insbesondere die werkseigene Produktionskontrolle, dürfen andere Verfahren angewendet werden, falls eine geeignete Arbeitsbeziehung mit dem Bezugsverfahren nachgewiesen wurde. Das Prüfverfahren ist für natürliche und künstliche Füller anwendbar. Der Hohlraumgehalt dient zur Beurteilung der versteifenden Eigenschaften von Füllern in Asphalt.
