Diese Norm legt die Anforderungen zur Messung der Sauerstoffzufuhr und des Sauerstoffertrages von Belüftungseinrichtungen in Belebungsbecken gefüllt mit Reinwasser nach der Absorptions- oder Desorptionsmethode fest. Weil dieses Verfahren auf total durchmischte Becken oder Becken mit gleichmäßiger Belüfterdichte abgestimmt ist, kann es für bestimmte Belüftungseinrichtungen nicht anwendbar sein. Unter Betriebsbedingungen mit belebtem Schlamm können die Werte für die Sauerstoffzufuhr und den Sauerstoffertrag von den Ergebnissen in Reinwasser abweichen. Dies wird durch den a-Wert ausgedrückt.
