Dieser Teil der Internationalen Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bewertung der Möglichkeit der Vergilbung durch Phenole von textilen Materialien fest. Das Verfahren gilt speziell für die Vergilbung durch Phenole und beinhaltet nicht die zahlreichen anderen möglichen Gründe für eine Gelbverfärbung auf textilen Materialien. ANMERKUNG: Die Anwendung des Verfahrens ist keine Garantie dafür, dass die geprüften Materialien kein etwaiges Vergilben aufweisen werden. Das Verfahren ist als Screening-Prüfung vorgesehen; in der Praxis hat es dazu geführt, dass sich die Anzahl von Beschwerden über Vergilbung durch Phenole wesentlich reduziert hat, da es möglich ist, korrigierende Maßnahmen an Materialien vorzunehmen, die nach der Prüfung eine Vergilbung aufweisen.
