Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Farbechtheit aller Arten von Leder in allen Verarbeitungsstufen gegenüber Schweiß fest. Hauptsächlich findet sie bei Handschuh-, Bekleidungs- und Futterleder sowie Leder als Obermaterial von ungefüttertem Schuhwerk Anwendung. Zur Simulation der Wirkung von menschlichem Schweiß wird bei dem Verfahren eine künstliche Schweißlösung verwendet. Weil sich der Schweiß von Individuum zu Individuum unterscheidet, ist es nicht möglich, ein Verfahren von allgemeiner Gültigkeit zu entwickeln, die in dieser Internationalen Norm festgelegte künstliche alkalische Schweißlösung führt jedoch zu Ergebnissen, die in den meisten Fällen den Ergebnissen mit natürlichem Schweiß entsprechen.
