Táto európska norma špecifikuje postupy pomerného (pro-rata) multihabitatového odberu vzoriek bentických makroevertebrát (Multi-Habitat-Sampling, MHS) v brodných riekach a potokoch. Termín pro-rata vyjadruje zámer odoberať vzorky riečnych habitatov v adekvátnom pomere k percentuálnemu zastú-peniu týchto habitatov. Pomerný multihabitatový odber vzoriek nenahrádza iné techniky, ale je skôr (popri iných aplikáciách) základom niektorých multimetrických hodnotení používaných na posudzovanie ekologického stavu tečú-cich vôd. Metóda, ktorú špecifikuje tento dokument, je jednou z možných existujúcich techník pomerného (pro-rata) multihabitatového odberu vzoriek. Táto európska norma obsahuje aj podrobný opis postupu odberu vzoriek rôznych habitatov, ktorý sa môže používať aj pri iných ako multihabitatových odberoch vzoriek.
