Táto časť IEC 60998 platí na spájacie zariadenia ako samostatné jednotky na spájanie dvoch alebo viacerých elektrických medených vodičov (zodpovedajúcich IEC 60228 alebo IEC 60344), tuhých (plných alebo lanovaných) alebo ohybných, s prierezom od 0,2 mm2 do 35 mm2 vrátane, s menovitým striedavým napätím maximálne 1 000 V pri frekvencii do 1 000 Hz vrátane a s menovitým jednosmerným napätím maximálne 1 500 V tam, kde je elektrická energia použitá pre domácnosť a podobné účely.
