Táto medzinárodná norma špecifikuje postup na stanovenie indexu látok aktívnych na metylénovú modrú (MBAS) v rozsahoch od 0,05 mg/l do 0,5 mg/l a od 0,5 mg/l do 5,0 mg/l v rôznych vzorkách vody (naprí-klad podzemnej vody, pitnej vody, povrchovej vody, odpadovej vody a priesakovej vody). Aniónové tenzidy sú najdôležitejšie látky, ktoré sú aktívne na metylénovú modrú.Preto je táto metóda vhodná na stanovenie obsahu aniónových tenzidov [vrátane aniónových tenzidov s karboxylovými skupinami (napríklad mydlá)] vo vode.
